Using the touch screen to scroll and select buttons/options. However, I have not implemented this TrackPad tweak on the layout I've shared because everyone has their own preference on mouse sensitivity.Īlso, I haven't tried this but if it works I can imagine using this a lot inside menus. And I think I'm going to start doing this with every management game or similar from here on out. It sounds bad reading that but it's actually fantastic, because it makes it a million times easier when using small precise movements to click on small buttons or items in the game. I mentioned this to a previous reply, but the TrackPad for the mouse really feels great after I've cranked the sensitivity almost all the way down, then set acceleration to it's highest setting. This is literally the only time where I find it a bit of a bother to play on the Steam Deck. The only time it's a bother to me playing on the Steam Deck is when I need a keyboard to search for items. The second reason is the best answer to your question. When I play DF with plans to spend a lot of time with Work Orders and production. As with all games, it's nicer to play on a larger display.

But I only perfer playing it docked w/ a keyboard and mouse for two reasons: That being said, I do dock my Steam Deck to use it with the keyboard and mouse. I have just about no experience with the game before the Steam version, and I don't have keyboard keys committed to memory. Since the game doesn't (and may not ever) have Steam cloud saves I've almost excusively played it on the Steam Deck. I'll answer your question with another question: Have you played DF before the Steam version or do you have the keyboard hotkeys committed to memory? I've spent possibly a combined 8-10 hours of time tweaking and polishing it. Now I don't think anything unintended (or confusing) happens due to the game's hotkey overlap. It may appear messy, but in practice it's slick. I've updated the image link because I made a lot of tweaks to polish it. It's super nice.ĮDIT 2: If you're readying this, I believe I have the final version uploaded. For example, if you press D-Pad Up for Dig you don't need to then press the left trigger (right click) before you hit D-Pad Right for Chop. Left TrackPad = Two Touch Menus (see above), Right TrackPad = MouseĮDIT: I've updated the controls to where you don't need to right click or press escape every time you want to switch commands. Left Joystick = Camera (Click = Caravan), Right Joystick = Mouse (Click = Fluid Depth) L4/R4 = Zoom +/-, L5/R5 = Rectangle/Paint

The other Touch Menu is for the rest of the main order buttons (bottom center UI buttons) that aren't covered by the D-Pad, for example Zones and Build.Ī = Pause, B = Squad, X = Erase, Y = Stocksĭ-Pad Up = Dig, D-Pad Right = Chop, D-Pad Down = Gather, D-Pad Left = Smoothīumpers = Elevation +/-, Triggers = Mouse Clicks The left TrackPad has 2 Touch Menus, one for the Main Window Menus (bottom left UI buttons), for example the Citizens and Work Orders. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like, here. There's a bunch of community layouts, but it's hard to tell if they're polished and for the Steam Edition - which has different shortcut keys. I've shared a Steam Deck controller layout specifically for the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress called "Dwarf Fortress: Steam Edition".
